Ruin the All-Star voting system? Yes we can.
Currently the Montreal Canadians sit 5th in the Eastern Conference – that’s low for the Eastern Conference 1st Team All-Stars.
You haven’t heard? The Montreal line-up is full of All-Stars. The leading forwards in All-Star Eastern Conference voting are: Kovalev, Koivu, and Tanguay. These three are ahead of Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Semin, and Savard. On defense, we have Markov and Komisarek - who more than double up on Chara, Gonchar and Green. Goalie Price has more votes than his competition of Fleury, Lundqvist, Miller, and Thomas combined.
Are Hab fans abusing the voting system? Could Laraque really have earned his 1450 votes through his 11 games, 0 points, -4, 24 penalty minutes, and 3 shots? That’s not to say I don’t like Laraque, I think he’s the best enforcer in the NHL, but unless the league adds “Intimidating Milan Lucic” as an event in the skills competition – he shouldn’t be there. Neither should most of the Montreal team.
Last point: In the West All-Star voting is almost all Detroit… but that team is pretty much made up of All-Stars anyways.
